Fuel, food, going out ... everything has been getting more expensive for quite some time now, and the fun is getting left behind. Or is it? No, because cutting yourself to pieces through saving isn’t the answer! In this masterclass, we’ll show you why 2026 is the year of the “Smart Producer.” From serious analog synths and wavetable and granular specialists to portable samplers, controllers, and effect pedals that won’t blow your budget, we present exciting hardware highlights under 500 Euros so you can more quickly find the tool that truly fits your workflow. So hopefully at the end of the money there won‘t be that much month left again.
Smart buy or dust collector? What are you really missing?
Budget gear is tempting: a small synth on sale, an affordable pedal for more mojo, a controller instead of a mouse. But not every new device makes your setup better. Sometimes what you‘re missing is new sounds, and sometimes it‘s more structure. Maybe you already have everything you need and simply need to get to know your gear a little better. This buyer‘s guide will show you whether your next tool will be a game changer or just another dust collector with USB-C.

News! Now with monthly Eurorack radar – by Eden Grey
Welcome to my new modular synth journal for beat. I am Eden Grey aka Dr. Chelsea Bruno and If you don’t know me yet, I can introduce myself simply by telling you, I make a ton of music. I work in a bunch of styles with a lot of different methods, but one of my favourite things to do is to work on designing sounds creatively with my Eurorack synthesizer. And starting now, you'll find information, reviews, and rumors about the latest modules and happenings in the scene in my diary every month basically, your all-in-one modular update at a glance.
Why still a magazine?!
Every now and then, I find myself wondering what defines a magazine these days. YouTube is full of tutorials, Facebook and Instagram offer news, Reels and quick tips. As a print magazine, we can never be the first to break a story, nor can we keep up with the sheer volume of content on the internet.
Conversely, this leads to the idea of what a magazine can be: namely, a pool of curated content. Instead of delivering more and more content that doesn’t actually lead to solutions but is meant to “keep you hooked” for as long as possible, here you’ll find focused material for in-depth engagement.
There’s something else I find in magazines: surprises I wasn’t actively looking for. Sure, algorithms recommend such things too, but they usually find “viral highlights” that only help me to a limited extent. In a magazine, I find things that sometimes look beyond the horizon, but belong together.
And let’s not forget: peace and quiet! No doomscrolling through endless screaming clips and over-dramatized headlines. Instead, a magazine waits until you have time and want to devote yourself to the content. And then it delivers, from start to finish.
Spoiler: I certainly don’t want to lump everyone together. YouTubers like Hainbach, Venus Theory, Loopop, Benn Jordan, and many others offer well-researched content, inspiration, and a slower pace that doesn’t desperately chase likes at all costs.
From that perspective, I’ve found my answers and can now happily return to the content. For you.
